Day 1

09:00 - 10:30
Dare To Lead - Part One

Speaker: Brené Brown, Five x New York Times best-selling author

Brene Brown

In the first session we explore the ten greatest barriers to daring leadership that emerged from the seven-year study on leading, and we’ll examine the foundational skill set of courage-building: Rumbling with vulnerability. Vulnerability is the emotion we experience during times of uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure. It is the birth place of courage, trust, accountability, innovation, empathy, and agility. We’ll also learn why the greatest barrier to daring leadership is not fear, but our armour—the thoughts, emotions, and behaviours that we use to protect ourselves when we aren’t willing and able to rumble with vulnerability.

Brené writes, “One of the most important findings of my career is that courage is a collection of four skill sets that can be taught, observed, and measured. Translating this finding to leadership requires brave work, tough conversations, and showing up with your whole heart. Easy? No. Because choosing courage over comfort is not always our default. Worth it? Always. We want to be brave with our lives and our work. It’s why we’re here.”

Dare To Lead - Part Two

Speaker: Brené Brown, Five x New York Times best-selling author

Brene Brown

In the second session, we’ll build new practices in the remaining three skill sets of courage: Living into Our Values, Braving Trust, and Learning to Rise. Like the first session, this work will be actionable and practice-focused. Participants will have the opportunity to identify core values and operationalise those values into daring leadership behaviours. They will also learn how to use a research-based instrument to build trust in teams and to facilitate difficult conversations around trust, and they will acquire the key strategies to resetting after disappointments, setbacks, and failure.

Last, we’ll learn strategies for scaling daring leadership and building courage in teams and organisations by creating cultures where armour is not necessary or rewarded, where leaders lean into hard conversations, and where people drive innovation and connection by bringing their whole selves to work.
